A Bud Buddy

Description: An article I wrote for my mass media and society class. The assignment intended for us to write about readings or expieriences we encountered outside of class during the week.

The Google Pixel Buds. A revolutionary invention I’m incredibly eager to try. Like Apple AirPods, they serve as a Bluetooth set of headphones with a built-in microphone but are capable of so much more.

I first saw these on Pinterest a few months ago and thought little of them thinking they were a futuristic idea, but after watching AT&T Future I dug into them a little more and realized how real these earbuds are.

When the user is wearing them they can understand foreign languages through Google Assistant who translates in real time directly to the user.

I can’t even imagine this kind of technology exists, but it does. For only $150.

Fortunately for my bank account, the ear buds are only compatible with phones which have Google Assistant aka the Google Pixel or Androids.

There is some backyard path to make it work with an Apple phone, but I think I’ll wait for the tech to become a little more developed and compatible with my device.

But thinking about the implications of this tech blows my mind. We can understand people who we can’t communicate with. We can travel without fear of misunderstanding.

We can become one world instead of hundreds of tiny worlds all living on the same planet. This little bud buddy can change society.
